Carlos Sequeira, Joao Felix’s father, has shed light on the attacker’s future after he returned to Atletico Madrid following an unproductive loan spell with Chelsea.
Felix spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has lost faith in the Portuguese winger.
However, the 23-year-old struggled with Chelsea, netting only four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions. Mauricio Pochettino’s team have decided not to pursue him permanently this summer.
Sequeira has remarked on his son’s future and is hopeful that a decision will be reached soon. He stated (as reported by AS): “Of course this situation affects him, but he has to be calm, because things are going to solve one way or another, where I do not know. What he decides, for us, is good.”
Felix has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and the Portugal international is reportedly open to the potential transfer. His father has explained that the Atletico winger’s agent Jorge Mendes is handling his future:
“João has the agent who manages it, Jorge Mendes. They are the ones who are managing it, I have nothing concrete. I don’t really like being told that there is such and such a possibility, because then they create expectations that may not be met.”
The Portuguese forward moved to Los Colchoneros from Benfica in 2019 for a reported €127.2 million. He was regarded as one of Europe’s finest prospects at the time.
However, Felix’s tenure at the Wanda Metropolitano has been turbulent, and he has failed to persuade Simeone. In 131 appearances with Atletico, he has 34 goals and 18 assists.
Many expected Felix to return to his best at Chelsea and regain his confidence. However, he joined a failing Blues team and was unable to make an impression in west London.
