Bengaluru: Have politicians in Karnataka forgotten the electoral reforms made by late T. N. Sheshan? How are the parties allowing fence jumping, horsetrading and poaching. Why have they again become a norm?
Recent developments in the field do support that. The pollsters and analysts have noted that this is the longest list of dynasts who have received tickets thus far in any recent election. Out of the 56 new faces, the BJP has given 29 seats to the relatives and families of its leaders after eliminating an equal number of candidates for the senior grade.
Many of the BJP candidates on the list that is circulating in political circles have a member of their family who has previously served in office or been elected on its behalf. These individuals include Union Ministers, State Ministers, MLAs, and Members of the House of Representatives.
Shashikala Jolle, the wife of Annasaheb Jolle, the President, and a Member of Parliament for the Chikkodi Parliamentary constituency, are among the well-known names that have been included on the list. From the Nippani Assembly segment within the same parliamentary constituency, Shashikala will run for office. In Chikkodi-Sadalga Ramesh Katti is Umesh Katti’s younger brother and a Former Minister. Nikhil Katti is Umesh Katti’s son in Hukkeri. Ramesh Jarakhiholi is running for office in Gokak, and Balachandra Jarakiholi is the MLA and Minister in the BJP Government in Arabhavi. Yellamma Rathna Vishwanath Mamani is the late Vishwanath Mamani’s wife and a Saundatti MLA. Malakiah Guthedar’s brother Subhash Guthedar is also an MLA in Afzhalpur. Avinash Jadhav, a Chincholi resident and Umesh Jadhav’s son, is presently the Gulburga MP. In Gulburga South Dattatreya Patil son of Chandrashekar Patil Revoor form MLA of the same constituency.
Basavaraj Bommai is running for office in Shiggaon; his father, S. R. Bommai, served as Karnataka’s Chief Minister. The list goes on to reach 29 names of dynasts. The rule of dynasts is luckily or more characteristically restricted to Kalyana Karnataka, Kittur Karnataka and the Northern Districts mainly only few constituencies in Bengaluru like C. V..Raman Nagar, Gandhinagar, and Basavanagudi are mentioned. While sporadically Ramanagaram, Sira, Tumukur City, Nanjanagudu, Hanur, Shikaripura, Soraba, Hiriyur, Bellary City and Bellary Rural, Kampli, and Vijayanagara are mentioned.
It is not just BJP but also the Congress. Son of Mallikarjuna Kharge- Priyank Kharge, nephew of B. K. Hariprasad MLC Rakshit Shivaram and many others are in the fray in Karnataka.
