Dehradun: Recently the Mana Village in Uttarakhand and which shares the border with China has been renamed as first village of India. Earlier, this very Village was called as the last village of India.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on April 24 placed a signboard at the border village of Mana in Uttarakhand, declaring it to be the First Indian Village. The Village is located in the Himalayan region.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had stated, “Mana was the first village of the country, and every border village should be the first village.”
Dhami further said that the border areas of the country are becoming more vibrant under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, and this a initiative to support the objective, Vibrant Village.
The Vibrant Village scheme, which was mentioned in Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget speech in Parliament, focuses on developing villages in 46 border blocks across 19 Districts, 4 States, and one Union Territory – Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh (UT) – located on the Northern border.
The village Mana is located on the banks of the River Saraswati in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. It is located at the Indo-China border. The village is situated at 3219 metres height, and surrounded by Himalayan mountains.
Bhotia community, a Mongol tribe are the major residents of the village Mana. Woollen works are major occupation of this village. And also it is famous for kidney beans and potatoes.
