The sea around Netrani island has been a popular destination for scuba diving. The Uttara Kannada District Administration took a step ahead to use the destination to promote voting awareness.
The initiative to conduct such a unique voting awareness programme was held in association with the Uttara Kannada District SVEEP Committee, the Election Commission of India, and a locally operated snorkelling club.
Several members of Bhatkal Taluk Panchayat and nearby Mavalli-1 and Mavalli-2 Gram Panchayats had also participated in this programme.
Scuba divers took the voting awareness campaign underwater. The divers held up posters that created awareness of the importance to exercise the right to vote.
Divers then took pictures of themselves along with the posters underwater. These pictures were even shared by the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka
