Remember the times when we used to come back from school and watch TV? It’s not just the cartoons that bring us with a wave of nostalgia, it’s also the TV that we are missing right now. There was a list of shows with their timings in the newspaper and that’s it – our plan for the weekend was sorted with our family. Now the TV has been successfully replaced by Netflix. I recall the platform being luxury for all. Back then, having a user ID for Netflix was ‘cool’. All we do is sit at the comfort of our homes or travel, and tune in to our favourite episodes. But what if I tell you that there are alternatives to your binge watching sessions on a free day? Let’s find out.
Tame Tasks of Tomorrow
It can be as simple as decluttering your desk, making your bed, or even cooking something for yourself. I know that the notepad on your phone is very handy, but try to use the power of writing. I am sure you will be surprised! Eliminating distractions and planning for your day ahead helps you be way ahead of tomorrow. Planning always helps.
Play Board Games
Seriously, just do it. The feeling of playing scrabble, ludo, or any other board game will keep your mind away from the ‘junk media’ that you mindlessly scroll on your social media. Playing board games helps you train your brain efficiently and makes you smarter. Your brain and heart will be much relaxed and you won’t regret it.
I remember doing this when the power went off when I was a kid, maybe it’s time to relive those days.
Grab a book
I know Amazon has introduced a kindle for a reason, but it can never, ever replace the beauty of turning the pages of your favorite book. Hop on and grab a fiction, rom-com, or even a fun read that will lighten your mood. It can be any self-help book to nourish yourself and help you control your distractions in our daily life.
Go to a library or the nearby park and indulge yourself into a new world!
Don’t Text, Call
Texting makes our lives simpler. Want something? Leave a text. But if you want to really check on your friend, please call them. Emojis were created to make texting more exciting, but calling your loved ones makes their day even better. That one call might make their day, so go ahead and dial the number. Research shows that while texting creates an illusion of being close, it may also cause instability in relationships.
Pursue a new hobby
As we are hustling throughout the week for 5 days, we often tend to feel detached from our creative self. It’s always best to have a hobby that lets your mind relax after the chase. It can be painting, writing, crocheting, or even cooking your favourite dish. One can often enroll themselves in classes that would nurture their skill and make them utilise it in their daily life. Who knows, you may be the next top chef or the next Picasso! You will only know if you try.
So try these ideas instead of watching endlessly on the square box device. Trust me, life is much better outside of technology.
