Kannada film star Sudeep had extended his support for the BJP since early April after conducting a casual press conference with Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai. Sudeep has been actively campaigning for several BJP candidates over the past week.
As per his schedule, Sudeep was slated to campaign in Tarihal Village of Belagavi Rural Assembly constituency on May 1. However, the campaign was called off after a young man was murdered in the village the previous night due to a trivial matter.
The deceased youth’s autopsy was conducted, and a funeral was scheduled for May 1 afternoon. Considering the tragic incident, the villagers advised against conducting an election campaign in the village, especially since the campaign was planned to be held at around 1.00 pm, the same day.
Therefore, the roadshow in Tarihal village was cancelled. The roadshow was initially intended to be held at Sulebhavi, about 30 kilometers away from Tarihal, but was later shifted to Tarihal.
On May 1 Sudeep had also planned campaigns in various parts of Belagavi District, including Nesargi Village in Kittur Assembly constituency, Yemkanmardi Village, Belgaum North, and Belgaum South Assembly constituencies.
