Udupi: The Karkala Assembly constituency in the Udupi district is buzzing with Hindutva fervour as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, adds the third dimension to the Hindutva politics. With the inclusion of Sri Rama Sena Leader Pramod Muthalik in the race, the BJP faces a challenging situation. Yogi’s campaign on May 6 in Karkala will be a crucial determinant.
The roadshow is expected to draw in over 25,000 BJP supporters and workers, and party workers from all 209 polling booths are gearing up to welcome Adityanath.
Meanwhile, on May 3, Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat and BJP Candidate Yashpal Suvarna unveiled the party’s manifesto for the Udupi Assembly constituency. Bhat mentioned to reporters that the BJP had already delivered on 80% of the promises made in the 2018 elections. The manifesto promises the establishment of a full-fledged government medical college, multi-storey car parking, and revamping the drainage system in the city. A 100-bed government hospital in Brahmavara, an agriculture college, and a food park in Manipal are also on the agenda. The BJP aims to create job opportunities for local youth with the establishment of environment friendly industrial units in the constituency.
The Manifesto highlights the preservation of heritage corridors and rejuvenation of lakes for groundwater replenishment. It also focuses on creating an IT park and textile park and developing ten government schools as centers of academic activities. Other proposals include a lift irrigation project to flow water from Varahi River to Sita River and the construction of hostels for high school and college girls from backward classes in the constituency. For fishermen, the Manifesto includes a multi-storeyed parking lot in Malpe Harbour.
