Bengaluru: A scuffle broke out between BJP and Congress workers during door-to-door campaigning in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency on May 6 night, which is one of the sensitive Assembly constituencies of Bengaluru. At this time, there was an allegation that the police pushed Congress candidate Kusuma Hanumantarayappa while the police were trying to stop the riot. In this background, the Congress workers protested demanding that Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivprakash Devaraj should apologise to Kusama openly.
There was a commotion during the election of Congress Candidate Kusuma in RR Nagar Assembly Constituency. Allegations of assault were made by the BJP workers and the police used light batons to disperse the rioters. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Kusuma Hanumantarayappa was pushed by the police. BJP workers also assaulted Congress workers and threw water. In addition, it has been alleged that Congress workers were assaulted by BJP’s Venkatesh. Enraged by this, the Congress workers staged protest in front of Yeshwantpur Police Station in hundreds of numbers.

At the time, the BJP workers, who had expressed Opposition, said that they should go to polls without distributing tickets. At this time, as there was a warning of a commotion, the police baton-charged the two parties to get them out of the area. Congress candidate Kusuma including Congress workers have been sent from the area. However, it has been alleged that the BJP workers assaulted Congress workers while being sent from the riot area.
In front of the Yeshwantpur Police Station, there is a tense atmosphere as hundreds of Congress and BJP workers have gathered. A tight cordon has been made in front of the police station and a KSRP contingent has been deployed.
Congress candidate Kusuma Hanumantharayappa said mediapersons that while the BJP workers were assaulting Congress workers during the election campaign, the police stood by and watched. They had protested in front of the Yeshwantpur Police Station saying that the police had lashed out at the Congressmen.
Police detained 12 persons of both parties and released later. A KSRP platoon has been deployed near Yeshwanthapur Police Station as a precautionary measure.
