‘Buy local’ is the trend which creates awareness about what is being produced and sold locally. Buying local produce is the ‘in thing’ these days. It is a new way to create a bond amongst fellow neighbours.
It has many benefits, such as forming relationships within the local community and also supporting the local economy. When we buy from businesses in our community, we build trust, as we know exactly how the products are manufactured or made. There is no hidden agenda.
Goods that are handmade, like, jewellery have a story to tell always. We get to know about the passion of the artisan. And as we retell the stories to our friends and family, we help indirectly in the growth of the local businesses.
Choosing to shop locally, also circulates the money within your community, boosting the local economy. This increases the opportunities for the local businesses to give back to the community in the form of events or sponsorships.
‘Buy Local’ is not only about money, it also about dreams, that you help in making ‘real’. For example, a homemaker, in her free time, pursues her passion for baking. Imagine, how heart breaking it would be if no one wants to buy it. Don’t we all enjoy the different products like cake, cookies, pastries? Then, why not buy it from a home baker?
Buying locally means relishing, sharing and supporting small businesses around you. It also means, ‘word-of-month’ advertisement. The local shops usually do not have a lot of money to invest on advertisement. Hence, when you buy something from the small businesses, you should and must spread the word through social media and during get together. Most of the small businesses are on social media like Instagram and Facebook, tag them along with the pictures of your purchase.
The ‘buy local’ trend in this century that is moving and growing rapidly, is a good indicator showing that shoppers are now conscious about their community and environment. Small businesses that could not compete with the big businesses, now have the opportunity to turn the table and make it work for them, to prove that anything is possible if we put our sincere efforts.
Shop Local, Grow Local.
