Bengaluru: Countdown for the Karnataka Assembly elections has started. It is curious as to what the result will be. Especially in the post-poll surveys, most of the polling agencies have predicted that Congress would get simple majority, that it has increased the vigour in the party camp.
Against this backdrop, the political activities in the Congress camp have intensified. Meetings upon meetings are going on. Even if there is an inconclusive result, the Congress party has prepared a plan for it. Congress, which has realised even before the results are announced that some seats are needed for the majority, has set its sights on the winning candidates. Now, if the Congress does not get a proper majority, the plan of the Congress is to bring non-party members and form the government.
The voter’s verdict will be out tomorrow. Anything is possible. Therefore, the party is on full alert and Congress leaders have contacted SI Chikkana Gowda, a non-party candidate from Kundagola Constituency in Dharwad District. They have asked for support to join hands with them in case of inconclusive results. There is a direct fight between BJP candidate M. R. Patil and independent candidate SI Chikkana Gowda in Kundagola Constituency,
Chikkana Gowda is likely to win. Therefore, the Congress has decided to bring non-party member Chikka Gowda to the party even before the results. It is through Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who has recently left the BJP and joined the Congress, and that’s why the Congress has targeted Chikka Gowda.
Chikkana Gowda is a supporter of Jagadish Shettar. Since he did not get a BJP ticket, he contested as a non-party candidate.
There is a possibility that Former MP Prakash’s daughter M. P. Latha Mallikarjuna, who contested as a non-party candidate, will win in Harapanahalli Assembly constituency in Ballari district. Even before the result, the Congress contacted M Latha and asked for her support.
Chief minister Bommai called M P Lata Mallikarjuna, a non-party and Congress rebel candidate and asked for the support. Soon after this, Congress leaders also called Lata Mallikarjuna and inquired about her well-being.
