Bengaluru: The results of the Assembly elections have been announced and many prominent leaders have been defeated. Of these, eight of the MLAs who were responsible for the BJP Government coming to power in 2019 have also suffered a severe setback.
In 2019, 13 Congress MLAs and three Janata Dal MLAs resigned and led to the formation of the BJP Government by bringing down the Kumaraswamy-led Coalition Government. Of these, 16 MLAs were disqualified, and again they contested on a BJP ticket and became ministers.
BJP’s Pratap Gowda Patil from Maski constituency lost to Congress candidate Basanagouda Turvihal by 13,053 votes, while Hirekerur MLA B. C. Patil lost to Congress candidate Ujaneshwar Basavanappa Banakar by 15,020 votes.
Health Minister Dr. Sudhakar lost to Congress candidate Pradeep Eshwar by 10,642 votes in Chikkaballapura, while M. T. B. Nagaraj lost to Congress’ Sharath Kumar Bachegowda by 5,150 votes in Hoskote. In Kagwad, Shrimanth Patil lost to Congress’ Balarama Gowda by a margin of 8,827 votes. Mahesh Kumathalli (Athani) was defeated by Laxman Savadi, who quit the BJP to join the Congress, by 76,122 seats. K. C. Narayana Gowda (K. R. Pete) and R. Shankar (Ranibennur) have been pushed to the third place in the election.
Siddharth Singh, son of Anand Singh, who had quit the Congress to join the BJP, was given a ticket by the BJP this time. However, he lost to H. R. Gaviyappa by a margin of 33,723 votes. Roshan Baig and A. H. Vishwanath did not contest the polls this time.
Shivaram Hebbar (Yellapura), S. T. Somashekar (Yeshwanthpura), Byrathi Basavaraj (K. R. Puram), N. Munirathna (R. R. Nagara), Ramesh Jarakiholi (Gokak) and K. Gopalaiah (Mahalakshmi Layout) won the elections.
