Karnataka is just out of it’s fierce Assembly polls with over 73% of recorded votes. Among the discussions on malpractices like distribution of money, house hold items, sarees and shirts, the question on “How do the educated youth of our country deal in such a circumstance remained a question”.
Youth, the coming generation of the nation have availed a different view point. Being some one staying far from the constituency in the name of studies I came across few among those. Category A of youth questioned me, “Is voting that important, that you spend 8 to 9 hours a day travelling, so that you can cast it?!” Category B belongs to the genre of “I took money but didn’t vote for them”. Here an individual describing on how money was distributed explained, “I was given five hundred rupees, but I being stubborn took thousand five hundred”! Where as the other individual who even runs a family openly claimed to have received money from all the political parties who offered but when questioned on “who was your choice in the ballot?” the man smartly stated it to be a personal affair.
Analysing the above two categories there are several aspects to be understood and acted upon. First of all post seven decades of independence and system of universal adult franchise, we the generation are failing to understand the significance of election. Voting, today is assumed to be a competition and celebration for some one to attain power. Neither the candidate nor the voter remember that, “election is choosing a representative on our behalf’ when we are unable/not interested to make our presence in administration. People in Category B believe, money distributed by the parties during election is their own money which was taken in the name of taxes and not seen in the form of development”.
People believe that not taking money will fill others pocket and so better I fill my own pocket!
Indeed it is shocking to be understood that, people specially educated youth too are availing money and determining their standards. And also a mere thousand five hundred rupees being estimated as a value to our vote sounds tragic. Your vote to a party by availing benefits for your vote determines ‘you and your personality. The greediness within for money and a question on your self ethics. All that has to be said is, ‘Wake up India. Be Wise, Chose Wise. Say No to Manipulation and a Great Nod to a Better Society’.
