For good reason, the idea of the power of positive thinking has been well-liked for many years. Our thoughts have a significant impact on our feelings and our behaviour. An optimistic outlook, or optimism as a whole, can greatly improve many aspects of our lives – from our interpersonal connections to our general well-being.
Positive thinking has several advantages for both our physical and mental health, at least that’s what researchers have to say. Having optimism has been associated with lower rates of anxiety and depression, a stronger immune system, and less stress. On the other hand, staying away from negative people who make you feel insecure or bring you down is equally important for your emotional and mental health. Practise self-compassion: Be nice and compassionate to yourself, just as you would for a good friend. Recognise your triumphs and strengths, and practise self-compassion when things don’t go as planned. Would you ever be rude to a friend that’s discussing their problems? No right? Hear yourself out with the same compassion. Instead of wallowing in your troubles, put your attention on finding answers. You may feel more in charge of your life and more empowered as a result.
