Bengaluru: The Siddaramaiah’s Government suffered an initial setback as two died in Bengaluru due to incessant rainfall. The Chief Minister has instructed to give permanent relief to the problems of Bengaluru and plans have been made to provide administrative simplification and efficient governance.
In the interest of Bangalore development, it has been decided to create four new zones and BBMP will be divided into a total of 12 zones including the existing 8 zones. It is said that there is a need to increase the number of BBMP zones in the backdrop of increase in wards. Under the BBMP Act 2020, if there are 225 to 250 wards, there is an opportunity to divide into zones and to eliminate the disparity in the zones, the creation of four new zones has been contemplated in the BBMP. At present there is a provision in the BBMP Act to increase the zone of BBMP from 12 to 15 zones.
In view of smooth administration and comprehensive development, there is an opportunity to divide the city into 12 zones, which is currently 8 zones. It is said that CM Siddaramaiah has suggested to submit this proposal soon.
BBMP was going to be divided it into 10 zones in 2019-2020. Back then, it failed to get approval from the Government. Now, if new zones are created, demarcation will also be necessary. There will be an opportunity to include some parts of Bengaluru Rural District under the jurisdiction of the corporation. If this is the case, there is a possibility that Silicon City will expand further and the capital is moving towards becoming Greater Bengaluru.
As per the information from top sources of BBMP, earlier Siddaramaiah in his first term had decided to split the BBMP. Two to three palike zones were planned for Bengaluru. Now, he being the Chief Minister again, the decision has been taken for division of zones.
Presently 8 BBMP Zones – Bangalore East, Bangalore West, Bangalore South, R. R l. Nagar, Dasarahalli, Bommanahalli, Mahadevpura and Yelahanka are existing. They are planning to add 4 new zones that could be Jayanagar, Vijayanagar, Malleshwaram and Gandhinagar.
