Bengaluru: The Congress is ready to weave a new strategy to give a blow to the BJP in the upcoming Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections. The Congress Government has formulated a master plan to increase the number of BBMP wards to 250. When the BJP was in power, the wards of the Corporation were divided according to their need and 198 wards were increased to 243. It is said that now that the Congress has come to power, it has made a plan for restructuring.
The Congress Government is thinking of increasing the 243 wards divided by the BJP to 250. Ministers, MLAs and Senior Former Mayors of Bangalore have given advice about increasing the wards. Congress leaders are said to have given advice before the committee headed by Minister Ramalinga Reddy. Therefore, the Government has taken the advice of legal experts on increasing the number of wards.
After forming the Government, the Congress is gearing up for the BBMP elections. The party seems to be in a hurry to hold the elections urgently to take advantage of the Government’s five-guarantee scheme.
It is said that the Congress counter-strategy is to follow the same strategy to BJP, which strengthened its vote bank by conducting de-limitation. This may shock the BJP, which had calculated to win the election by dividing 198 wards into 243.
Although it has been two years since the tenure of BBMP Corporators ended, the previous BJP Government kept postponing the BBMP elections on one pretext or the other. Elections were not held within the stipulated period on the pretext of ward restructuring. Although the High Court had ordered that the elections be held, the previous BJP Government had again asked for a 6-month deadline in the name of reservation.
