Making its way to the Cannes Film Festival ‘Ek Jagah Apni’ is a movie that indeed feels like a personal win for the LGBTQI+ community and definitely for NIFF as it got to feature it, with both the Directors Rinchin and Maheen Mirza in attendance. It’s a theme explored and spoken about earlier, but this movie has said it in volumes.
The socialist movement by the Directors opened a gateway for the community to express itself. The movie’s highlight is that the actors are transgenders themselves, which does justice to the film as it helps develop the essence of the entire film.
When asked how the main leads were cast for the movie, the Directors said they chose themselves when helping with the script. They also spoke about the various challenges the primary principals faced during the filming and applauded for their bravery in choosing to act.
The audience were all praises for the movie.
Actress Rekha Kudligi commented that it was a beautiful watch. The Directors said they felt relaxed and happy during the screening, unlike the other film festivals they’ve been to, and would like to be part of the festival again. Now that’s a double whammy for NIFF!
