Bengaluru: The construction of the V. V. Puram Food Street, which serves Bengaluru residents including locals and foreigners, is progressing at a snail’s pace. BBMP has earmarked Rs. 6 Crore in 2022 to renovate V. V. Puram Food Street among others. But still V. V. Puram Food Street has not got a new touch. It is said that the work will be completed by July 15.
Thousands of people visit the V. V. Puram food street every day. In the evening, people gather here to stand on the street side and enjoy the delicious food. Also this street is a favourite place for tourists and YouTubers. Food Street from Sajjan Rao Circle to Minerva circle has more than 40 food stalls. Also various snacks are sold in pushcarts. Late in the evening, a large crowd of food lovers flock to this road. But, without infrastructure in this part, customers and shop owners are facing some ot the other problems everyday. Vehicles are parked haphazardly on both sides of the road. In many places, the footpaths are encroached, causing problems for the movement of people. On the other hand, vehicular traffic is becoming more of a problem. To avoid all problems BBMP had decided to redesign the food street.
In December 2022, BBMP had presented a proposal in this regard.
Accordingly, the renewal was to be done within four months. But work is still in progress, roads are being dug and pipes are being installed.
Speaking to Verito.today Manikanth Gupta, President of Food Street Vendors’ Association, said that Bengaluru rains and elections were the reason for the delay in the work.
Shops are allowed to open from 6.00 pm due to the work. Earlier, shops used to open here at 4.00 pm.
BBMP Zonal Commissioner (South) Jairam Rajpura said that due to unavoidable circumstances like elections, the renovation has been delayed but we aim to complete it by July 15.
