Bengaluru: Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that the officials have been instructed to install CCTV, electric lights and meter gauges to know the amount of rain water immediately so that there is no problem in the underpass or bridges under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.
Addressing reporters after a meeting with senior officials on monsoon preparedness, Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that a total of 53 underbridges will come up under BBMP, out of which emergency works have already been undertaken in 41 underbridges. He said that emergency work should be undertaken on the remaining 12 under bridges and the authorities have been instructed to carry out the necessary work immediately.
There are 198 flood-prone sensitive areas in the city, out of which permanent relief has been provided in 118 flood-prone sensitive areas. In the remaining 80 places, a temporary solution has been found and the officials have been instructed to check all these sensitive areas again and ensure that there is no problem.
Flood-prone areas in the city should be closely monitored and pumps should be arranged in sensitive areas under the respective zones where more water remains stagnant. Now the teams should always be ready to go quickly from the Forest Department to the place where the trees have fallen, he said and added that the officials have been instructed to resolve the complaints received from the citizens quickly so that there is no trouble anywhere.
Due to the works undertaken by Metro, BWSSB, BESCOM, KPTCL, GAIL and other departments in the city, road side drains, road surfaces are damaged and water seeps through the roads during rainy season and water stagnation is becoming a problem. Therefore, he said that a coordination meeting with all the departments will be held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Secretary and Administrator of the Urban Development Department to resolve the issues.
Senior officials of respective zones should ensure that no problem occurs during rainy season, he said.
In this regard, Tushar Girinath instructed the officials that if there is any problem at the place where Rajkaluve works, flood affected areas, underbridges and overbridges are visited and checked, they should work to solve it immediately.
All Zonal Commissioners, Joint Commissioners of all Zonals, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Head of Engineering Department, Chief Engineers of all Zonals, Chief Engineers of Rajakaluve Division, Chief Engineers of Lakes Division, Chief Engineers of Solid Waste Division and other concerned officers were present at the meeting.
