Bengaluru: BBMP has started the construction of ‘Public Plaza’ at the bottom of Shivananda Steel Flyover in Capital Bengaluru. It is deemed to be an attractive place to provide high-tech facilities to the citizens in the middle of the road. But people are protesting against this.
There are more than 45 flyovers in the state Capital Bengaluru. But for so long, unauthorised activities were going on in the area below these flyovers. Garbage piles were full even under some fly overs. Now in order to usher in such activities, a public plaza is being constructed under the upper part of the city.
Several public plazas are being planned at Shivananda Circle, Race Course Circle, Anand Rao Circle, BHEL Circle, Mysore Junction in the city under Amrita Nagarothana Yojana. Currently, 10.45 Crore are being spent on this project, and separate high-tech toilets for men, women and minorities are being constructed to benefit the citizens.
The main attractions around the plaza will be floor lamps, decorative lamps and street lamps. Besides, there will be an autorickshaw pick up zone, zebra crossing, footpath. Children are also provided with materials to play. Officials said that in the plaza, kiosk, rest area, mobile charging unit, separate space for books are being constructed and it will be inaugurated in a month.
But the public has expressed outrage about this project. There is no space for parking vehicles in Shivananda Circle. What is the need for these hi-tech public plazas in this context? It’s just a trick. The steel bridge will reduce the traffic. But it is not less now. A toilet is being constructed under the flyover. But if those toilets are not maintained properly, it is certain that there will be problems for the locals. Therefore, the locals expressed their opinion that we did not need this project at all.
