The Telugu film Korangi Nunchi was screened on the third day of NIFF. The film was directed by K Jayadev. Archana and Vikranth Thomas have acted in the lead roles.
The film’s plot revolves around a single parent, a Koyalamma tea stall owner, whose most significant concern is to marry off her son. Her major income source is the bus that comes to Korangi, which stops at her shop so the passengers can buy tea. When the Government decides to stop the two buses from cutting down the expenses, a series of consequences follow in the life of Koyalamma and her children.
The themes highlighted in the film were the discrimination towards tribal people and the migration of people from the villages towards the cities in search of better opportunities.
Audience Response:
Film enthusiast Rohan said, “Film lacked the connection between the situation and the story. The story was forced to fit into the social issue. But we cannot run away from the fact that the tribal people need to relocate from their villages to the city, and all the facilities are being cut down. The movie showcased the migration of the villagers towards the cities. In the film, the issue is being addressed. The movie is slow; and force-fitted in the end. The movie makes you want to know more about the situation and the place.”
Aparna, a media student, said, “I liked the film. It shows what happens in this era. People from villages are migrating to the city for their selfishness and benefits. Leaving that mother and son duo alone was sad to watch.”
