One of the aims of NIFF is to showcase movies that explored social issues and highlighted the struggles of marginalised communities.
One such film, titled “Photo,” centred around the lives of underprivileged father and son duo during the lockdown, shining a spotlight on their challenges and resilience. A boy’s simple, innocent desire to get a unique photograph in front of Vidhana Soudha turned life upside down for them.
The audience approached the film with curiosity, empathy, and a desire for authentic storytelling. “It was raw”, says one of the audiences. Their thirst for narratives that would offer a fresh perspective was quenched here at NIFF through the movie. The simple and natural acting of the actors is a plus point.
“For us privileged people, it’s just another sad story, but actually, it is a lived reality of someone else,” says a student of Mangaluru. Without filtering the human condition, the film captures each detail of the characters and de-dramatises them, adding to the quality of the movie.
Moreover, the audience was in praise for its cinematography and how the movie carried on the aesthetics in each frame. Overall, it was a good watch.
