Fête de la Musique – need not wonder on what the new term is. It simply means music day. There was a time in the stored memory of my childhood that it was only the immigrant workers from other states had ear phones plugged in. They always were seen doing their work and humming music or they just had the loud music on and continued their daily wage chores.
The culture which we lived, having loud music was a part of uncivilised nature. The workers then also had their mouth filled with tobacco. So all together, a tobacco spat on walls and loud music were determined to be the actions which is performed by an uncivilised society. With tobacco, music too got it’s black mark.
Whatever the history was, with time the way people looked into music has completely evolved. Music now has become an essential part of someone’s daily routine. Ear phones and music cum work has been a routine of kids to middle aged people. In order to commemorate the music, world music day celebration began. June21 has been celebrated as the World Music Day every year.
As per the history, it was Maurice Fleuret who began with the celebration of Fete de la Musique. Maurice Fleuret had become the Director of Music and Dance at the Ministry of Culture of France. With his study in 1982 he learnt, one young person out of two, played a musical instrument. He then dreamt a way to bring people out on the streets and in 1982 in Paris it was named Fête de la Musique. And today, Fete de la Musique is celebrated worldwide.
