Mangaluru: The greens of Mangaluru city headed by the National Environment Care Federation (NECF) have warned the Mangaluru City Corporation against allowing flex publicity material nailed and hung on the trees of the city. “If you do not remove them by June 24, we will remove it ourselves and dump them in the Corporation office on June 25,” sternly warned General Secretary H. Shashidhar Shetty.
He said there are thousands of them hanging on the tree trunks crudely nailed to the trees and tied to their branches, This is not just inhuman but also absolutely violent against trees. Some of them are months old and displayed even before the state assembly elections. Firstly, there is a ban on using flex material used in public places and secondly the Mangalore City Corporation has allowed the political parties and others to use public places for using banned material. It also violates the preservation of public places and parks and the Karnataka open places act.
Speaking to Verito.today Shetty said we have already lodged a complaint against the revenue officials of the City Corporation to the Deputy Conservator of Forests following two trees dying after being poisoned due to using nails on the tree trunks. We have also filed a complaint in the Barke Police Station in the City against the revenue officials and also on June 24 will complain to Lokayukta.
