Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has partnered with Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) and Sagarmala Development Company Limited (SDCL) to establish a combined Container Freight Station (CFS) and Warehousing Facility. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for this project was signed today at NMPA by key representatives.
The proposed CFS cum Warehousing Facility will be constructed on a 16.6-acre area of NMPA’s land, with an estimated project cost of Rs. 125.42 Crore. NMPA will provide the land valued at approximately Rs. 44.25 Crore, while SDCL and CWC will equally share the remaining project expenses. The completion target for this endeavour is set for June 2025.
The primary objective of this project is to enhance NMPA’s capacity in handling the growing container traffic for import and export (EXIM) in the region. NMPA’s existing container terminal, developed through a Public-Private Partnership, has already witnessed significant growth, handling Full Container Load (FCL) cargo. With the introduction of the CFS, the facility will now be able to handle Less than Container Load (LCL) cargo as well.
The CFS will play a crucial role in supporting small exporters and agricultural product exporters, particularly in the coffee industry. It will offer temperature-controlled storage for cargo aggregation and efficient handling facilities for containerized cargo stuffing. By reducing container dwell time, both for imports and exports, the facility aims to achieve an important milestone in line with the Maritime India Vision 2030.
The collaboration between NMPA, CWC, and SDCL sets the stage for the development of a state-of-the-art CFS cum Warehousing Facility. This facility is expected to bolster trade operations, optimize connectivity, and contribute to the growth of sea-based trade in the region.
With this strategic partnership and the upcoming completion of the project, NMPA aims to further establish its position as a key player in the maritime industry, fostering economic growth and prosperity for all stakeholders involved in international trade.
