As Barcelona seeks a long-term successor for Sergio Busquets in the market this summer, the veteran midfielder is nearing a decision on his future.
Busquets’ future has remained uncertain since he declared last month that he wanted to leave Camp Nou. He is now a target for Saudi Arabia, who are willing to pay a fortune for him, in addition to Inter Miami.
Busquets, though, appears likely to join Inter Miami, where he will rejoin with his old Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The rumour from MD also states that Busquets will sign a contract to play for Inter Miami for the remaining two years of the current MLS season. Thus, the midfielder may agree to a deal with Inter Miami that would last through the end of 2025.
As far as Messi is concerned, Busquets’ possible acquisition by Inter Miami may be a welcome one. The Argentine and the elderly midfielder have a fantastic relationship and would love to catch up in America.
Although the two had hoped to reconnect at Barcelona the following season, the team was unable to re-sign Messi. Busquets ultimately decided to leave the club because the Catalans were actually having trouble paying his high salary.
Inter Miami may possibly want another ex-Barcelona player, Jordi Alba, in addition to Busquets and Messi. Similar to Busquets, the defender has declared he will leave Camp Nou this summer, making him a free agent.
There is a good chance that Alba may rejoin Messi and Busquets in Miami this year because of ongoing negotiations he is having with Inter Miami.
