Bengaluru: Due to the delay in Monsoon rains in the state, tomatoes cannot be grown, and in some Districts, the price of tomatoes has skyrocketed due to soil moisture due to rains. A kg of tomato is being sold at Rs. 125 at Hopcoms in Bengaluru.
As everyone need tomatoes and onions for daily cooking. But suddenly the price of tomato has reached at its peak and it is a burden for the common people. Apart from this, due to the increase in the price of vegetables, the prices of meals and snacks have also increased in hotels.
The price of vegetables has increased in the state, especially the price of tomato has seen a significant increase. Tomatoes, which were available for Rs. 40-50 a week ago, are now Rs. 100-120.
Kolar is the largest tomato growing District in Karnataka. And 15 kg tomatoes are sold for Rs. 1,100 in the APMC market of Kolar, which has the distinction of being the 2nd largest market in Asia. In Yadgiri, 20 kg of tomato is sold for Rs. 2400.
This year the tomato crop is less and the production has also declined due to weather conditions. A farmer who had come to sell tomatoes at mandi in Kolar said that the price has increased due to shortage of supply.
Tomato sowing is less this year mainly in Kolar. Last month, tomato prices had fallen. Many farmers who were fed up with this had dumped tomatoes. But now the price has increased. Demand has increased. But due to lack of production, farmers are now worried whether to grow or not. Currently, several farmers in Kolar have grown more beans this year.
Tomato prices have increased not only in Karnataka but also in other states. Rs l. 100 per kg in Bhopal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Rs. 80, its Rs .60 in Punjab and Jaipur.
