“A Lot Can Happen in A Year. Whatever Seems Almost Impossible Today Can Be Your New Reality Soon. Stay Consistent and Give 100%” – Gal Shapira
Continuing on my insights on having a routine and kick-starting your day with energy and enthusiasm. We read about ‘hour of power’, ‘daily energy plan’ and ‘sleep cycle & waking up energised’. The next thing we do is using the washroom, and shower. All of us prefer a hot shower, thinking it would refresh us, but it isn’t a great way to start the day, because hot water relaxes you, while a cold shower increases testosterone, gets the blood pumping, leaves you energised to start the day in full swing. I have never thought of a cold shower in this way, until I read the book.
What is one of the most common habits we have for our tasks? Hmmmm…. a ‘to-do list’. A list with all our tasks for the day. Do we complete all of them? Most often, not. Wonder, why? Because we get to work and tirelessly keep on doing it without taking a break. Studies say that people who take breaks and work are more productive than the ones who prolong taking breaks.
Mann, talks about a technique called the ‘pomodoro technique’, which gives the best result. The technique is to follow a 25-minute work and 5-minute break routine. Work and only work for 25 minutes and then take a break for 5 minutes (no emails, gadgets, etc., instead walk around, go to the toilet, look outside the window, etc). Repeat this four times and then take a long break, for 15 to 30 minutes. Follow this method until your work is done.
The pomodoro technique is quite effective, as it helps get our work done without tiring our body and mind. The book also says, about creating a pomodoro for each task you want to complete, and also that schedule the most important tasks in the morning, because we are fresh and energetic at the start of the day.
Give this technique a try, and see if it actually helps you complete your tasks without draining you.
