The eagerly anticipated young cricketer from India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is set to make his international debut in the next Test series against the West Indies.
Jaiswal has won admirers with his outstanding performances after making his first-class debut in January 2019. He has played in 15 games, scoring 1845 runs on average (80.21), including nine century and two half-centuries. Notably, at the age of 17, he set the record for becoming the youngest double century in List A cricket.
Jaiswal demonstrated his expertise in T20 matches during the recently finished IPL season by collecting 625 runs in just 14 games with a strike rate of 163.61. His unbroken 98 off 47 balls was a memorable effort, despite the fact that he almost missed a century. He nearly shattered the overall record during this innings and smashed the IPL half-century mark in record time.
Jaiswal has been praised for his calmness, however he did lose his composure once during a Ranji Trophy game. He was dismissed by his captain, Ajinkya Rahane, while representing West Zone in the Duleep Trophy in 2022 for insulting an opponent. Jaiswal recognised his infrequent violent outbursts but underestimated how serious they were.
During the just concluded IPL season, Jaiswal showed his prowess in T20 games by scoring 625 runs with a strike rate of 163.61 in just 14 games. Despite coming close to missing a century, his unbroken 98 off 47 balls was a noteworthy effort. During this innings, he came dangerously close to breaking the overall record and quickly reached the IPL half-century milestone.
Jaiswal has been acclaimed for his serenity, although he once lost it during a Ranji Trophy match. While playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy in 2022, he was fired by his captain, Ajinkya Rahane, for criticising a rival. Jaiswal was aware of his infrequent violent outbursts but misjudged their severity.
Jaiswal recognised that, regardless of the quality of play, sledging occurs frequently in cricket. He emphasised that everyone encounters it to some degree, despite the fact that it could be less noticeable in competitions like the IPL. But when it came to insulting remarks about his family, he drew the line. He made it clear that he would not put up with anyone criticising his mother or sister. “Any opponent who abuses my mother or sister will not be tolerated,” he warned.
India’s vice-captain for the Test series against the West Indies, Ajinkya Rahane, previously commented on the send-off of Jaiswal. He emphasised the value of playing by the book and treating other players, rivals, and match officials with respect. Rahane was adamant that individuals who fall short of these requirements have no business playing on the pitch.
