Elixir too transforms into a poison when consumed more the limit. If so, imagine the outcome of consuming poison in a regular basis? Of course, there is no chance of surveillance. Youth today, are into the consumption of slow poison like alcohol, drugs and hookah, a new trend in the town.
Today, more than house and the family environment it is schools, colleges and peer groups which attract the young generation into such illicit activities. The college hostels which had to be the second homes are turning into hookah and drug stations. Peddlers have made colleges a heaven for their business. Indeed, all these factors happen not without the notice of school and college management. But major setback here is the management not finding a necessity to come up with the solution which may bring the end to the problems. The FIRs and complaints on Ganja peddlers, and smugglers are the daily news now. Can it be the solution to end intoxicant addiction, if asked then the answer will be a definite NO.
Koria district in the north of Chhattisgarh has become the model for the country to act against the drug abuse. The state Police is also awarded with prestigious international IACP 2022 Award for ‘Leadership in Crime Prevention’. The Nijat campaign adopted by the police of Koria district is a movement against illegal drug trafficking, smuggling, and addiction. Like the theme for this year’s international day against drugs, “People First: stop Stigma and Discrimination, strengthen Prevention”, Nijat includes a three-step formula in collaboration with the public.
The inclusion of women in grassroot level along people’s representative can be called the reason for the major hit of the campaign. The programme not only punishes the peddlers but also provides the addicts with rehabilitation solutions. Breaking the chain is easier when consumers say no to it and aid police in finding the peddlers. In a society, where intoxicant addicts are left with no chance of change, the Nijat campaign sets a new ray of hope. Like Chhattisgarh may all the state Government and district Police volunteer to such social change with the inclusion of school-college management, teachers and youth of the country.
