“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” – Buddha
Routine, is a tough cookie. We always think of starting ‘tomorrow’. The ‘tomorrow’ that doesn’t ever come, the ‘tomorrow’ is like an alien, we only hear about but never actually see or may be doesn’t exist. Today is what we have and we should try to make it our best day.
So, how do we make our tomorrow better in reality and not just words? By planning today. The book says, having an evening ritual is as important as having a morning routine. What is this evening ritual all about? Let us understand and implement in our life.
• Reading, is a habit that helps you learn and improve your life, it also works in reducing stress. Start with reading just a few pages, say may be 10 pages, every evening.
• Reflect on your day. What did I accomplish today? What best have I done today? What I could not accomplish? What can I do to improve my work tomorrow? Try writing the questions and answering them.
• Prepare for the next day. For example, if you have the task of writing an article, keep the topic ready previously. This helps reduce decision fatigue in the morning and conserves your energy.
• Journaling, can be a good way to keep track of your progress and irradiate the path forward.
• Turn off all the digital devices like the phone, laptop, television, etc. at least an hour before going to bed. The blue light of the screen tampers with the sleep.
• Pick your outfit for the next day.
• Spend your evenings, engaging in a hobby that you want to master.
• Get adequate amount of sleep. Sleep deprivation is one of the key factors in having low energy and decreasing your productivity.
The list may seem too much to do, but to be frank, it will take an hour and a half at the most. This evening ritual could help jump start your next day and give a good night’s sleep.
