Bengaluru: To solve the traffic problem in Bengaluru City, the Government has opted for the underground tunnel. It is proposed to build 6 tunnels at a cost of Rs. 50,000 Crore. The construction of this tunnel will take at least 5 years. Meanwhile, the Government has not yet decided on to which authority will be handling the entire project.
The Deputy Chief Minister of the Congress Government and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister D. K. Shivakumar, has taken the initiative to collect people’s opinion for the construction of Brand Bangalore. Several suggestions were received from the public, one of which was the traffic problem. The traffic problem in Bengaluru City is severe and the police are harassed. So, the Government has resorted to subway roads to solve traffic problem. It is planning to build tunnel roads at a cost of Rs. 50,000 Crore.
The Government has sought advice from technical experts from other countries and officials from tunnel construction consultancy firms regarding the construction of tunnel roads. It is planned to construct the tunnel in 2 phases and 50 km road construction is being considered at a cost of Rs. 22,000 Crore. There is a thought to construct the tunnel in 4 or 6 lanes. Former CM Kumaraswamy criticised the Government’s decision. Don’t bury Bangalore by building a tunnel, he advised and added to work scientifically.
As expected, if the road is to be constructed on the following routes, it will take about 5 years. A tunnel road is being considered to connect Bengaluru Centre to the outskirts.
The tunnel roads are planned as far from North to South Corridor a total of 27 kms. It starts from Ballari Road to Hosur Road, Central Silk Road via Yelahanka – Mekhri Circle. In East to West Corridor 1 a total of 29 kms that is from K. R. Puram to Goragunte Palya, Old Madras Road – ITPL – Ring Road, Goragunte Palya outside Ramamurthy Nagar. In East to West Corridor 2 a total of 28.90 kms from Old Airport Road to Mysore Road, Varthur Kodi to Gnanabharati. In link corridor 1 a total 4.5 km from St. John Hospital Junction to Agra, Link Corridor 2 a total of 2.8 kms, link corridor 3 a total 6.45 kms from Wheeler’s Road Junction to Kalyannagar on Outer Ring Road.
