New Delhi: Speculations are rife that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu and Varanasi. It is being said that the Prime Minister will be contesting from Tamil Nadu with an aim to bring the party to the forefront in South India.
It will not be surprising if Modi contests from Tamil Nadu as well. Senior political analyst P. K. D. Nambiar said that the Varanasi-Tamil Sangamam event was held a few months ago with the aim of further strengthening their political ties with Tamil Nadu.
Another view is that if Modi contests from Kanyakumari, a strong cultural link between Kashi and Kanyakumari will materialise.
A source close to the BJP said that some people are of the view that contesting from Kashi and Kanyakumari would be suitable for the Prime Minister’s post. Speculations are also rife that the Prime Minister will choose Coimbatore instead of Kanyakumari.
The BJP has done well in Kanyakumari. BJP Candidate Pon Radhakrishnan had given a straight fight to Congress’ Vijay Kumar in the 2021 Lok Sabha by-election. The BJP got 4,38,087 votes while the Congress got 5,76,037 votes.
BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan is currently MLA of Coimbatore South. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, C. P. Radhakrishnan of the BJP got 3,92,007 votes, while P. R. Natarajan of the CPM got 5,71,150 votes.
