Welcome back to my column! This week I am sharing insights on job interviews and how to navigate the application process. Last week, I discussed the structure of interviews, and today I’ll be sharing tips on how to apply effectively.
Your resume and CV play a crucial role when applying to companies, so it’s important to utilise various platforms such as LinkedIn, Naukri, and Indeed. Additionally, make a list of companies you’re interested in and regularly check their career pages for preferred job opportunities.
To attract recruiters, consider tailoring your CV to each job title and organisation. While maintaining a general impactful resume, ensure that you update it based on the roles and responsibilities mentioned in the job description. It’s also beneficial to obtain certifications related to your field, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Create a section in your resume where you mention the certification names and, if possible, provide links to them. Investing in a premium LinkedIn account and completing courses aligned with your current job role can further enhance your profile.
Keep in mind that recruiters often check your LinkedIn profile to gather more information about you. Therefore, be mindful of what you post and like on the platform. Set a weekly schedule to check for new job opportunities on the platforms mentioned earlier, and make sure to apply promptly. Don’t forget to update your last working day in the job portals as you approach your final days at your current job. This simple step can increase the number of calls you receive from potential employers.
Continuously learn from previous interviews and make an effort to avoid repeating the same mistakes in future interviews. It’s helpful to jot down the content you prepared for interviews, including commonly asked questions and basic topics.
Documenting questions that you think will be beneficial for future interviews can also be valuable.
When it comes to negotiating your salary, approach it with caution. Watch videos or gather information before engaging in salary discussions with the HR Department. It’s important to handle these conversations in a polished manner to maximise your chances of securing a favourable outcome.
In conclusion, I wish all candidates preparing for interviews the very best of luck. Stay tuned for more insights in the future.
