Bengaluru: Foxconn, the iPhone manufacturer, has putforth a proposal to establish an additional plant in the Devanahalli ITIR region. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presided over a high-level meeting with company delegates on July 17 to discuss this matter.
The meeting, held at Vidhana Soudha, was attended by Minister M. B. Patil, Minister of IT/BT Priyanka Kharge, and Chief Secretary to the Government Vandita Sharma.
According to the proposal, Foxconn Industrial Internet (Fii), a subsidiary of Foxconn, intends to invest Rs. 8,800 Crore in the project. This investment would generate 14,000 job opportunities, and the required land for the plant is approximately 100 acres. The company delegates will be taken to Tumakuru on July 17 to evaluate the available land at Japan Industrial Township in Tumakuru.
Fii’s operations at the new plant would involve manufacturing screens, outer coverings, and mechanical components necessary for phones. This facility would serve as a supplementary plant to the existing assembly unit in Devanahalli.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah highlighted the state’s favorable ecosystem for industrial growth and emphasised the coordination between academia and industries. He assured the company’s leadership team, led by CEO Brand Cheng, that the Government would facilitate the availability of skilled human resources. He extended an invitation for the company to establish the unit in the state.
M. B. Patil expressed the Government’s willingness to provide full cooperation for the proposed projects. He mentioned the Government’s openness to considering other proposals from the company, such as setting up a semiconductor manufacturing unit.
The meeting was attended by Michel Ling, Jason Lau, Angie Lein, and Bharath Dandi from Fii, as well as Rajaneesh Goel, ACS to the Chief Minister, Selva Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, and Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner.
