From learning to pronounce it properly to comparing it to the age-old famed puffs, the fame of Croissant is spreading wide. The role of social media too is high in getting the flavours of croissants reach the length and breadth of the country, which was earlier restricted only to cities. For croissants, It is the shape of the snack which gave it’s name.
Croissants actually have an Austrian origin. In German language, croissant was called ‘Kipferl’ which in German means crescent. Jim Chevallier, an independent scholar and author stated that, Croissant may have had Austrian origins, and that the French made it their own. There is also history giving credits of Croissant to the French queen, who hailed from Vietnam. Her cravings for her native food introduced croissant to France, they say.
