Udupi: After three days of incidents of placing a video device in the girls restroom in a college in Udupi, victim girls have launched an official complaint with the Police Suprerintendent of Udupi against the perpetrators of the crime through their association – ‘All College Student Power’ signed by the President of the Association Rachan Salian.
Mere suspension and apology letter were not sufficient as the gravity of the crime had ravaged their modesty in the public domain. The college authorities had suspended three girl students belonging to a minority community and taken an apology letter from them and let off. The girls are now back in the college the victims added in the letter.
Further investigations have revealed that there were men associates of perpetrators of the crime also belonging to a minority community who were giving them video devices and asking them to place it in the girls’ toilets. The perverts later used to stream it on the social media in the form of reels.
Following the discovery, the college took immediate action, seizing the mobile phones and suspending the students responsible for the act. It’s worth noting that as per the college’s rules, students are prohibited from bringing mobile phones to the premises. The college administration asserted that they have a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of indiscipline.
Sources close to the matter revealed that the incident appears to involve a group of friends and might not have been intentional. The college authorities conducted a preliminary investigation, indicating that it might have been a mischievous act aimed at teasing the girl. During the inquiry, the students claimed to have deleted the content in front of the affected student. Additionally, the girl who left the mobile phone in the restroom, along with her friends, has apologised to the victim and deleted the content in her presence.
As a responsible measure, the college also informed the police about the incident. However, the victim expressed her wish not to file a formal complaint but rather sought a warning for the girls involved, with the hope that such behaviour would not recur in the future. But since the damage is too much the victim girls have asked the college to take sterner action and dismiss the three girls from the college.
