Welcome back to my column, where I’ll share my journey in the new organisation. Initially, I was content with the people and work, but over time, I realised that there were some concerns. I expressed this to my line manager, who quickly responded, and with the help of my mentor/boss, I was shifted to a more challenging project, where I revamped the architecture successfully. During the process, I learned valuable technical and managerial skills from my mentor, as well as how to handle various aspects of the business.
Working with my mentor was enjoyable, and my performance development reviews were positive. Despite being remote, our organisation provided flexibility, but we eventually had an opportunity to meet in person when the global director visited our Bangalore office. I was thrilled to meet everyone, and this meeting allowed us to connect and understand the diverse projects and expertise within the company.
The organisation’s global presence ensures that colleagues are mapped to offices close to their hometowns, making it challenging to meet everyone frequently. Thus, such delegate visits become crucial for networking and building relationships. My stay at a nearby hotel during this time allowed me to immerse myself in the experience, bond with colleagues over lunches, and gain insights into the organisational structure.
This meeting solidified my decision to join the company, and I learned the importance of giving things time to settle before reflecting on decisions. Allowing ample time provides different perspectives, leading to better decision-making in the future.
Stay tuned for more updates on my journey!
