Udupi: The Udupi washroom video case, recently handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by the Karnataka Government, has spurred a heightened pursuit of truth in the matter.
An exclusive team of CID personnel conducted an on-site inquiry at the residences of three female students over the weekend. These students stand under suspicion for their alleged involvement in the creation of a video within a washroom, with another female student as the central figure.
Leading this investigative unit is CID DySP Anjumala Nayak, who plays a pivotal role as the case’s lead investigator. The on-site inquiry took place following the acquisition of a search warrant issued by the court. It has been confirmed that this inquiry will span multiple days as authorities meticulously chase every potential lead.
Since the CID’s assumption of the case, the team has meticulously gathered statements from both the victim and the college’s administrative body. Additionally, the trio of young women suspected of participating in the incident underwent intense questioning, with their statements carefully documented.
Despite the victim’s decision not to formally lodge a complaint, the Udupi police autonomously registered an FIR, naming the three female students and college management as the accused parties. Subsequently, the accused individuals were granted conditional bail by a court.
Running parallel to the statement-gathering process, investigators have amassed fingerprints and closely reviewed CCTV footage recovered from the college premises. To further bolster their scrutiny, the mobile phones belonging to the three suspects were dispatched to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) located in Hyderabad.
The transfer of the case’s jurisdiction from the state police to the CID occurred following preliminary investigations by the former. Aware of the heightened sensitivity of the case, Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, emphasised the significance of this decision, acknowledging the case’s delicate nature.
