OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has made a strong case for using AI in content moderation by highlighting how it may simplify processes and boost productivity at social media firms.
Despite spending billions on its development in the hopes of having an industry-wide influence, digital behemoths like Microsoft and Alphabet, the parent company of Google, have yet to completely capitalise on generative AI, despite having attracted a lot of attention.
“The time needed for content moderation might be drastically reduced, going from many months to just a few hours”, according to a recent announcement by OpenAI with Microsoft’s backing. Additionally, this development guarantees more precise and consistent content labeling.
For social media sites like Meta, the parent company of Facebook, who employs thousands of moderators globally to block hazardous content like child pornography and severe brutality imagery, content moderation is a difficult task.
OpenAI stated, “The process (of content moderation) is inherently slow and can lead to mental stress on human moderators. With this system, the process of developing and customising content policies is trimmed down from months to hours.”
Additionally, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed that the startup’s AI models are not trained on user-generated data.
