Bengaluru: All are equal in the eyes of the law, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and added that this should be implemented effectively.
On August 26, speaking at a meeting on the Karnataka Government Litigation Management Act, 2023 held at Vidhana Souda Conference Hall in association with the Department of Law, Justice and Human Rights and Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Reforms.
CM Siddaramaiah said, a Government lawyer should not be indifferent to the Government’s case. The affairs of the Government are the affairs of the people. The extent to which people get justice should be increased. The poor do not have the power to go to the higher courts. If the poor do not get justice, the appointment of government lawyers will not be useful, he said.
It is very important to write pleadings correctly and effectively. Indifference and recklessness at this stage will result in failure in all subsequent stages of the justice process, he said. So he suggested that government lawyers should act very responsibly.h
The failure of Government lawyers and officials gives the Government a bad name. Whether the litigation is small or big, take it seriously and do your homework. People pay us. We are getting privileges with people’s money, he said. He added that we should have consciousness and a sense of duty and gratitude about this.
There is an opinion in the public sphere that some judges are blind. It should be deleted all together. Cases should not be dated unnecessarily. A case should be conducted. Granting bail to the accused in criminal cases should be effectively discouraged, he said. The Chief Minister implicitly said that your merit will be known there.
The onus is on you to demonstrate professionalism without incurring legal censure. You must understand that the Government is your client. A sense of duty should prevail, he said.
He instructed the Government lawyers to effectively discharge the responsibility of safeguarding the interest of the Government and the people and saving the property of the Government.
