Udupi: Following a controversial statement by Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Minister and son of Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, regarding ‘Sanatana Dharma,’ Udupi Pejawara Matha Seer, Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, has expressed his disapproval, condemning the comment as an attempt to create discord in society by promoting harmful ideas.
In a video message, Vishwaprasanna Theertha conveyed his dismay, highlighting that individuals in responsible positions, such as ministers, should refrain from making statements that could potentially divide society.
“I’m surprised that a Minister would propose eradicating Sanatana Dharma. Someone in such a position should avoid disseminating harmful ideas. Sanatana Dharma is about enduring values and nurturing peace and harmony,” remarked the seer.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s contentious remark has not only drawn criticism from the Udupi Pejawara Matha Seer but has also faced strong opposition from BJP leaders and pro-Hindu groups.
Former Minister Dr. Ashwath Narayan unequivocally denounced Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statement, asserting that it displayed a lack of awareness regarding India’s rich and diverse heritage.
“Unaware of India’s rich heritage of Sanatan culture, Udayanidhi Stalin made a provocative statement that “Sanatan Dharma should be eradicated like dengue, malaria. Such a statement can only be made by ignorant people who do not know about the wealth of knowledge of Sanatana culture which spread the principle of “Vasudaiva Kudumbakam” to the world. DMK leader M. K. Stalin’s son should immediately apologise to the people of the country,” added Ashwath’s X account from September 3.
BJP Leader Amit Malviya also expressed his concerns regarding the matter, stating, “Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin, and a Minister in the DMK Government, has linked Sanatana Dharma to malaria and dengue… He is of the opinion that it must be eradicated and not merely opposed. In short, he is calling for genocide of 80% population of Bharat, who follow Sanatana Dharma. DMK is a prominent member of the Opposition block and a long-standing ally of the Congress. Is this what was agreed in the Mumbai meet?”
Amidst the growing tension and controversy surrounding Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks, the criticism from religious and political leaders underscores the importance of fostering understanding and respect for diverse belief systems.
It serves as a reminder that public figures, in their roles of influence, bear a significant responsibility to promote harmony and unity among communities. As the discourse continues, there is a shared hope that dialogue and empathy will prevail, promoting the values of coexistence and mutual respect.
