Bengaluru: In a groundbreaking stride for Bangalore’s flourishing metro network, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up to unveil two new extensions on the Purple Line, fortifying the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
The much-anticipated Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram (2.1km) and Kengeri-Challaghatta (2km) segments are primed for inauguration on September 15, heralding a monumental moment for commuters in the region.
This expansion signifies the realisation of a long-cherished project, as the entire stretch from Whitefield to Challaghatta will become fully operational on this auspicious day. This juncture carries immense promise for the city’s transportation landscape, promising heightened connectivity and an enhanced urban commuting experience.
Prior to the commencement of operations, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct exhaustive inspections of the Baiyappanahalli-K. R. Puram and Kengeri-Challaghatta extensions, assuring the highest standards of safety and functionality.
A pivotal element in this expansion effort is the finalisation of pending works at the strategically positioned Benniganahalli station, nestled between K. R. Puram and Baiyappanahalli. Once granted approval by the CMRS, these new metro stations on the Purple Line will open their doors to eager passengers.
The extended metro corridor between K. R. Puram and Baiyappanahalli promises to be a game-changer for the multitude of daily commuters, predominantly consisting of tech professionals. This corridor will greatly streamline travel to vital employment hubs, including ITPB, Mahadevapura, and Kadugodi.
The existing Purple Line, spanning a substantial 39.4 km, presently caters to over 600,000 passengers daily. With the imminent unveiling of these new segments, daily ridership is projected to surge past 700,000.
Currently, a journey from one end to the other on the Purple Line takes a little over an hour, with a fare of Rs. 60. As these pivotal extensions come online, the metro’s efficiency and utility are poised to elevate the urban travel experience for both residents and visitors of Bengaluru alike.
Stay tuned for September 15, when Bangalore Metro’s Purple Line is set to redefine urban commuting once again.
