Mangaluru: Nagendra Nath Sinha, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, visited the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) on September 8. Top officials of the NMPA Dr. A. V. Ramana, Chairperson of the NMPA, Mr. K. G. Nath, Deputy Chairperson, Heads of Departments, and senior officials of the NMPA were present in a meeting with the secretary.
During the visit, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, explored the Cruise Terminal and engaged in discussions with Port Officials regarding various infrastructural aspects of the port. These discussions encompassed the handling facilities for iron ore fines, raw materials import and export of iron ore pellets by KIOCL at the New Mangalore Port Authority. The future plans of the port were also extensively reviewed.
Dr. A. V. Ramana presented an overview of the NMPA’s future plans, as well as the array of initiatives aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business and promoting green port initiatives. Furthermore, the discussion delved into expansion programs, ongoing infrastructure projects, and proposals designed to boost the productivity of the port. T. Saminathan, CMD of KIOCL, was also in attendance, along with senior officials from KIOCL Ltd.
As part of the visit, the Ministry of Steel Secretary launched the logo stickers for the Global Maritime India Summit 2023, intended to broaden the event’s regional publicity. He expressed his best wishes for the summit’s resounding success. Additionally, a trade notice pertaining to iron ore handling at the port was released.
Subsequently, Nagendra Nath Sinha inspected the port’s berths and various infrastructural facilities. Chairperson Dr. A. V. Ramana apprised the Secretary of the Ministry of Steel about numerous infrastructural and technological advancements achieved by the port.
The Secretary, appreciated the NMPA’s commitment to environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art facilities and ongoing developmental efforts aimed at enhancing infrastructure facilities.
