Hyderabad: A Revanth Reddy, the Chief of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), has accused the BRS government of being apprehensive about the activities of the Congress party in the state. On Saturday, he alleged that IT Minister K T Rama Rao had exerted pressure on the management of a hotel that is hosting the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting starting on September 16.
The PCC chief further remarked that if the Congress had acted similarly during its tenure from 2004 to 2014, the BRS party might not have risen to prominence. “During our time in power, if the Congress had adopted a similar approach, the TRS flags might not be as visible today. What would have become of KCR and KTR? Would they have been able to protest or hold rallies? What they are enjoying now is the goodwill of Sonia Gandhi,” he stated.
Revanth recalled how the ruling BRS government had attempted to hinder Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting in Khammam on July 2. “As part of their plan, the local Minister devised a scheme. Drinking water was withheld for two days and only released on the day of the public meeting to engage people. RTC buses were denied permission, and when private vehicles were used, they were halted, and drivers were subjected to harassment by authorities. Despite all the obstacles created by the BRS, the public meeting was successful and drew 3 to 4 lakh attendees,” he reminisced.
During his visit to the ‘Vijaya Bheri’ venue on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the grand public meeting scheduled for September 17, where Sonia Gandhi, the party’s Parliamentary Party Chairperson, is set to address the gathering near Tukkuguda, accused KTR of harassing the hotel management. He claimed, “During a lunch visit, KTR summoned the managers and questioned their decision to accommodate the Congress party’s event. This is the behavior of a power drunk KTR.”
While acknowledging the support of local farmers in Tukkuguda, Revanth mentioned that when efforts to secure permission from the government and departments like Endowments proved futile, these farmers stepped forward to offer space for the Vijaya Bheri public meeting. “When the Endowments department hesitated to provide us with 50 acres of land, local farmers came forward with nearly 100 acres for the Vijaya Bheri event,” he added.
