Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister S M Krishna opined that “The central government should discuss with the four states and formulate a difficult formula to draw the final curtain on the issue of Cauvery water distribution.”
He said this while answering the media’s questions about the Cauvery issue at the Chitrakala Parishad on Sunday. “A suitable decision should be taken after discussion with the four states. This is the only way to permanent solution, said SM Krishna.
He said, “When the rains are low, the Cauvery dispute is loud. When the water level falls during the rainy season, there is pressure on the water. Compared to us, Tamil Nadu’s situation is shameful. Even when I was the CM, there was a tense situation regarding Cauvery water distribution. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was then the Prime Minister, tried to negotiate with the CMs of both the states. But it was not successful. Finally the Supreme Court had to step up.”
The decision of the state government is correct.
Krishna said, It is the right decision for the state government to take the next step on the Cauvery issue by taking the advice of Justice Ravindra, Justice Venkatachaliah and other retired judges. The same should continue. I defend this. It is natural that the farmers of Kaveri region are struggling. They are expressing their feelings and attitudes. I wish them all the best.
DCM DK Sivakumar said, “Former Chief Minister Krishna is a very experienced leader. We welcome advice from his experience.”
Our government is committed to look after the welfare of the people of the state. We don’t bother with politics. Whoever gives suggestions for the good of the state, we will accept them,” Sivakumar said.
