Chikkamagaluru: A female laborer was trampled to death by a wild elephant near Aldur of Hedalu village on Wednesday. The Chief Minister condoled the death of Meena, a 29-year-old hardworking woman who died this morning in a elephant attack near Hedalu, Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru district, and instructed the officials to immediately distribute a compensation check of Rs 15 lakh.
The Chief Minister held an emergency meeting with the District Collector, District Defense Officer and senior officials of the Forest Department in Mudigere. He has given a clear instruction to the district administration to immediately take necessary action to send the forest animals that have come to the town back to the forest.
The Chief Minister spoke to the protestors who are fighting over the dead body of Meena over the phone and instructed them to take all necessary measures to avoid forest disaster.
The Forest Minister will also come here and hold a long meeting and take action on the conservation works. Elephants are coming because of the coffee plantations adjacent to the forest area. At the same time, the Chief Minister said that he has discussed with the Forest Minister to give clear instructions to the task force about the necessary measures including railway fencing.
Responding to the insistence of locals and protestors that the elephants should be shot and killed, the Chief Minister said we should not think to that extent. He instructed the authorities to take other effective measures.
