Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, saw a severe landslide recently that prompted the initiation of a search and rescue effort. Buildings were washed away in Mandi as a result of severe rains after the state experienced high rainfall.
Sniffer dogs and rescue teams were on-site as local authorities coordinated a rescue operation. The incident comes after recent flooding brought on by torrential rains, which caused extensive damage.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had called a meeting of a powerful committee to improve disaster management in reaction to the recent heavy rain. He stressed that the state has suffered substantial damage as a result of a startling 157% rise in rainfall over the previous four days.
Infrastructure restoration efforts are in progress, and about 400 out of the 1,220 blocked roadways have already been restored. The Chief Minister also gave instructions for the speedy restoration of the water and electrical systems that had been disrupted.
In order to help in the rescue efforts after the Shimla landslides, the Indian Air Force flew 18 army personnel in a Chinook chopper.
