Novak Djokovic is without a doubt the best tennis player in history, according to Daniil Medvedev, who also thinks the Serbian’s ability to win matches even on his worst days puts him apart from the competition.
At the French Open last month, Djokovic won a men’s record 23rd Grand Slam championship to surpass Rafa Nadal and move three titles ahead of another formidable competitor, Roger Federer. The 36-year-old is now targeting an eighth triumph at Wimbledon, which got off on Monday.
With a victory in London, Novak Djokovic will tie Margaret Court for first place on the all-time list with 24 major trophies.
“I don’t know how he does it,” Medvedev told reporters. “If I recall correctly, Novak is close to 50%,” I said. He competed in 70 major tournaments, and in 34 of them, I believe, he reached the final. I’m not sure how it’s feasible. He never has a bad day, right?
He actually does, just like everyone else. He is nonetheless able to defeat the adversary on these poor days. Due to the fact that it is one against one, it is difficult. They both want to triumph.
“I have no idea how he manages it. He is, in my opinion, the best tennis player in history because of this,” Medvedev noted. However, this is obviously disputed in general.
Djokovic, who began the year by winning the Australian Open as well, is attempting to maintain his chances of completing a calendar year Grand Slam by winning all four major tournaments.
Famously defeating Djokovic in the 2021 U.S. Open final, Medvedev prevented the world no. 2 from accomplishing the feat.
Medvedev stated, “I played an amazing match. To be able to beat him when he was going for a Grand Slam, maybe he was a little bit tighter than usual.”
“Given what he did after this, this makes me even more proud that I was able to do it.”
I’m just relieved I was able to do it. I want to keep going. In the championship game, I want to keep trying to compete against him or anyone else. I haven’t been able to do that for a while.”
