Manipur riots which began almost 3 months back has finally got world’s attention with human right issues arising when a video displayed a gang of male paraded two backward women nakedly. The Manipur violence is a deeply complex issue with various political angles that have contributed to its persistence and intensity over the years. And it has more of economical angle which impact entire Europe and China along with all developing countries who are shareholders for the economic growth of entire region collectively.
AH1 is the longest route of the Asian Highway Network, running 20,557 km (12,845 miles) from Tokyo, Japan via Korea, China, Southeast Asia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran to the border between Turkey and Bulgaria West of Istanbul where it joins end-on with European Route E80. In India, the AH1 extends along Moreh – Imphal – Kohima – Dimapur; Dimapur – Nagaon; Nagaon – Numaligarh – Jorabat; Jorabat – Shillong – Dawki; (Branch from Jorabat to Guwahati Petrapole – Barasat; Barasat – Kolkata; Kolkata – Durgapur – Barhi – Kanpur – Agra – New Delhi and New Delhi – Attari. Also, there are certain countries who don’t want India to lead this development and moreover sad part to mention here that is certain agencies, and political parties in India too don’t want the Current Government be given the credited for the same.
Another reason beyond religion and caste in Manipur is its ample natural resources, such as timber, minerals, and hydroelectric potential, that have attracted economic interests, leading to disputes over control and exploitation. The competition for these resources have escalated tensions and conflict and now its beyond the control of local police.
Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) implemented during British rule was continued till recent period. Due to pressure groups’ legal steps, court of law asked Governments to withdraw AFSPA from various parts of North East India, which is now resulting in such a humiliating situation to the entire country. Whether ruling parties both in the State and Central are waiting for court’s intervention to adopt military rule which indeed won’t falls under contempt of court is the question looming large. At the end, its common people who are the sufferers of all misdeeds and that’s where they need someone to blame politicially. And being the election year, we are going to witness such incidents definitely more in numbers.
