Karwar: A research vessel with eight scientists among 36 crew members stranded midsea off Karwar Coast was rescued by the Indian Coast Guards on July 27. The research vessel – RV Sindhu Sadhana of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) had 36 crew members.
The vessel following an engine failure was stranded approximately 20 nautical miles away from the land when the Indian Coast Guard received distress signals. Soon as the coast guard received distress signals, they immediately undertook high-priority rescue operation with highly skilled team.
As the weather was challenging, the Coast Guards team had to tow the vessel to Goa as its grounding in sensitive Karwar coastline might pollute marine environment due to oil spill.
